The Photos Library is a bundled file on your Mac that includes all of the images imported into the Apple Photos program. Sometimes you have to find this library to do advanced debugging or to move it into a different machine. But where is it usually located? Let us find out.
The Default Photos Library Location
By default, your own Photos library is a file called Photos Library.photoslibrary, and it is located in the path /Users/[username]/Pictures (or ~/Pictures for short) in which”[username]” is the short user account name.
To arrive quickly, start Finder and click”Go” from the menu bar, and then select”Go to Folder” from the menu which pops up. From the window that opens, type ~/Pictures, then click”Go.”
If the”Photos Library.photoslibrary” file is there, you will see it listed in the Finder window which appears.
If it is not there, you may need to dig a little deeper with the Photos program.
Locate the Current Photos Library Using the Photos App
Since it is possible to rename or move your Photos Library file, you may not find it at the default place. If so, there’s a quick way to locate it. Open the Photos program, then click”Photos” >”Preferences” in the menu bar.
In Photos preferences, click on the”General” tab, then look at the”Library Location” section. You will see the path into the Photos Library currently in use listed there. If you’d like to see the library’s place in Finder, click”Show in Finder.”
If you clicked”Show in Finder,” a Finder window will open which includes your Photos library document. What you do is up to you, but you now know where it is.
