A video shared on TikTok Monday apparently shows actor Ben Affleck asking a woman why she recently “unmatched” him on the exclusive dating app Raya.
Actress Nivine Jay shared what she claimed was Affleck’s message responding to her at the end of a TikTok video with the comment, “Thinking of the time I matched with Ben Affleck on raya and thought it was fake so I unmatched him and he sent me a video on Instagram.”
“Nivine, why did you unmatch me?” a man who looks and sounds identical to Affleck says in the video, the authenticity of which has not been independently verified by Newsweek. “It’s me.”
Jay’s video had gained over 150,000 views on TikTok as of Monday night, with many more watching it on other platforms. Affleck’s name quickly trended on Twitter, with a number of prominent users weighing in with their reactions.
“Ben Affleck thirsty AF and making a fool of himself,” comedian Debra DiGiovanni tweeted. “See? Celebrities are just like us!!”
“If I get hit up by either Bill Gates or Ben Affleck on my dating app, I will definitely let y’all know,” Inside Edition correspondent Lisa Guererro tweeted, referring to both the Affleck video and Gates announcing his divorce on Monday.
“Now we know why that young woman unmatched Ben Affleck on Raya,” writer Caitlin Flanagan tweeted, while sharing an article about Bill and Melinda Gates’ divorce.
Comedian Whitney Cummings tweeted, “okay I am very pissed off at Ben Affleck because we NEVER EVEN MATCHED ON RAYA. Rude.”
Affleck was photographed leaving the home of his former girlfriend Jennifer Lopez last week after the singer split with her former fiancé Alex Rodriguez, with the pair having remained friends after breaking off their own engagement in 2004. Affleck has dated several women since divorcing actress Jennifer Garner in 2018. It is not clear when his purported would-be Raya match with Jay took place.
Raya is a members-only social media app that is intended to be used by people in the entertainment industry for both networking and dating. Celebrities like Affleck sometimes use the app, although Jay had reason to be skeptical of their match before she received what appears to be his video.
Although an October 2019 Page Six report claimed that Affleck was “looking for love” on Raya, the actor denied that he was on any dating app or website during a February 2020 interview with Diane Sawyer on ABC‘s Good Morning America. Assuming that the video shared by Jay was genuinely from Affleck, it is not clear whether he recently joined Raya or if a different person was previously impersonating him on the app.
Newsweek reached out to Affleck’s publicist for comment.
